Paintings by Justin Murphy.
Justin Murphy was my wife’s
(Christine’s) Dad. He passed away in
October 1999. By Profession he was an Eye Doctor and spent much of his
considerable energy earning money to look after his wife Joan and six kids. He was
very religious and had a love of the sea and ships which may have stemmed from
his time as a weatherman on the ship Kanimbla
during World War II. As a hobby, Justin painted and had some talent, however he
was painfully shy and never sold, exhibited or profited from his work. He
painted landscapes and was influenced by painters such as John Farmer and
McNally.
Anyway with the death of Joan
Murphy in January 2007, Justin’s paintings were passed on to his surviving
adult children, John, Tom, Vicki, Clare and Christine and the family of Louise,
who predeceased Justin. This small web page is an attempt to show as many as
possible of Justin’s paintings.

19 Paintings Held by Vicki
The paintings were selected
from several dozen. Amongst the paintings
were the same scenes painted several times, postcards and prints from magazines
used as originals, and the odd series of doodles. The doodles are really Justin
mixing up paint. Just numbers and no
titles here, hope you enjoy them. There
is a signature of sorts in the top left hand corner of some of the works like
v02, it’s a “seagull” sort of shape which could just as easily be a tick or the
letter “m” or all 3.
